Travel the USA

After the country re-opened after Covid-19, we are
"On the Road Again."
Please enjoy the 'armchair travels' and feel free to make comments.

In September of 2019, we made the
'epic' trip to the east coast for the first birthday of our grandson Evan.
Since Evan's birthday is in September, we decided to join a 29 day RV Caravan for the New England fall color. The tour starts in Maine and ends in Niagara Falls. All told, we did about 12,000 miles with the new truck and trailer.

Northern Idaho, Hayden, Coeur d' Alene (Lou's old 'stomping grounds)

Grangeville, Idaho

Our RV spot has an iconic rusty truck.

The elaborate watering system in the back of the truck is certainly artistic.

Mammoth bones were discovered at Tolo Lake near Grangeville in 1994.
Mammoths are a close relative to the modern Asian elephant.
(this picture is weird  - the glare on the windows removed the viewing of the tusk)

Grangeville’s mammoth replica, 14 feet height and 17 feet long from tusk to tail was a five-year project to partially recreate the creature, based on mammoth bones discovered at nearby Tolo Lake.

Remains of more than 200 Columbian Mammoths were discovered in this region.

The drive from Grangeville to Coure d'Alene goes thru the Palouse region
of the rolling hills, with brilliant fields of yellow flowers from
Rapeseed ( or Canola).

We were told that these flowers were Rapeseed, or Canola.
Apparently the industrial use  is Rapeseed and the culinary use is Canola.
At any rate, the Canola oil is healthier than the olive oil.

The beauty of these fields is overwhelming.

A trip down "memory lane"

Lou was able to connect with his friend Tom Olson
who was his dental lab tech that made all his crowns and bridges.

Tom was also an expert in restoring old cars.
This Model T was originally purchased by Tom's father from the original owner
(circa 1915)
Tom's garage is a showcase of his talent and treasures.

This is just one of many - the original T-Bird (with the large windows) that he restored from the frame up with all new (or refurbished) materials.

Another one of his masterpieces!

We stayed with friends from Hayden ( that we met in the RV park in Wellton, AZ)
and went to breakfast at the Coeur d'Alene Golf Course Resort
with outstanding views of the worlds only Floating Green.

This golf course is famous for
The Floating Green

This moveable island is a par 3 hole.
It can be moved as close as 90 yards from the ladies tee
to an average of 150 yards from the men's tee
or 220 yards from the  championship tee.

We watched the men tee off from the far left peninsula. You are only allowed
2 shots at the green then have to take a dropped ball.
 The boat would then
ferry the golfers to the island to finish the shot.

Talk about risk and reward! Land on the island and you’re a hero. Miss and your ball will join the thousands fished out of the water by divers each season.

A nice tour of Hayden Lake

Sue is certainly enjoying the trip.
I don't think Oscar likes it too much.

Camp MiVoden
Lou's daughter was a camper and a counsellor here for many years.

Livin the Life!

Beautiful homes on the lake

Getting from your house to the water can be a challenge!

Oscar was so glad to return to shore!

Last treat of the trip to Hayden was a friends lovely back yard
and the blue birds.
