Travel the USA

After the country re-opened after Covid-19, we are
"On the Road Again."
Please enjoy the 'armchair travels' and feel free to make comments.

In September of 2019, we made the
'epic' trip to the east coast for the first birthday of our grandson Evan.
Since Evan's birthday is in September, we decided to join a 29 day RV Caravan for the New England fall color. The tour starts in Maine and ends in Niagara Falls. All told, we did about 12,000 miles with the new truck and trailer.

Treasure Mountain Bible Camp (SOWERS work day #1)

On the way up to camp, the road is narrow and winding, so when the trucks with the giant marble slabs are coming down, we just back up!
Great way to start the day!

Ray Bauman - the founder of Treasure Mountain Bible Camp
shows us the buildings that need to be worked on.

Love these views

The building permit for these buildings was issued in 2006
The outside of the new kitchen- plenty of work to do
I love seeing these marble slabs all over town.
You can pick some up, but only what you are willing to carry.

Alan and Lou, after a successful first day of drywalling the kitchen.

Linda and Pat washed LOTS of dishes for the campers.
(next day should become easier)

Pat and Alan White are leading daily devotions.

We often see this mamma with her newborn foal.
So much fun to see her everywhere.  It adds to the pleasure of this wonderful place.
(Hope to get a good picture of the newborn soon!)

Preview of MARBLE COLORADO, and the Treasure Mountain Bible Camp

                 Marble, Colorado                                                June 25, 2021

In 1913 Manhattan builders ordered 1.2 million cubic feet for The Equitable Building.

In 1931 the quarry yielded one-hundred-ton slab,

It was the largest block of marble ever cut -

f

or the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

also     columns of marble were used in the Lincoln Memorial

The Marble quarry is only a couple of miles up the road from the camp.
We arrived during some rain, so did not walk far up the historic trail.
(The elevation here is 8600 feet!)

We are looking forward to exploring more of the area (after the days of working at the Bible Camp)

The Wolverton Mill

A mining engineer from Maine came to Utah in search of the lost Old Spanish Gold Mine.

He didn’t find the fabled treasure, but he build an ingenious mill to both saw the lumber and crush the gold that he did find.

He was able to barter lumber for other supplies in the remote parts of the Henry Mountains

(The mill has been relocated to Hanksville - still pretty remote!)

 Trip to Marble

Our favorite little cafe in Torrey,
and (of course) the cute little kitty
(salt shaker)

N
A favorite slot canyon along the Burr Trail

Heading to the Burr Canyon overlook
The sign at the overlook was pretty interesting!

I guess it is too bad that so many campers are finding all the campgrounds filled up.

2 other campers joined us in this wide open space at the end of the second day.

The Road Less Travelled

Directions said take the River Ford road.
I didn’t think that was literal!

Blog Update

My blog from the last big trip had to be updated for email delivery.

When you get a copy of this new post, please confirm ("Follow-It" is the new email notification service.)

Since we are planning quite a bit of travel, I wanted to start adding more to the blog.

First trip is to  Colorado for a month with Sowerministry.org.

They provide RV hook ups for a month and we provide some work around the camp. The Colorado camp is called Treasure Mountain Bible Camp and it is located in Marble Colorado.

near Aspen, and Glenwood

Nearby sightseeing!

Crystal Mill -
one of the most photographed places in Colorado

and yes, a real marble quarry
The Lincoln Memorial has this marble.

Stay tuned - we hope to have some internet connection!
