Travel the USA

After the country re-opened after Covid-19, we are
"On the Road Again."
Please enjoy the 'armchair travels' and feel free to make comments.

In September of 2019, we made the
'epic' trip to the east coast for the first birthday of our grandson Evan.
Since Evan's birthday is in September, we decided to join a 29 day RV Caravan for the New England fall color. The tour starts in Maine and ends in Niagara Falls. All told, we did about 12,000 miles with the new truck and trailer.

Trip delayed - at Fishlake

Our trip to Colorado was rudely interrupted.
We had planned on camping at Fishlake for 3 days to acclimate to the elevation, but when we heard bumping and grinding of gears on the truck, we decided to get an appointment with the mechanic and return home.

In the meantime, we enjoyed the scenery and the fishing.

The old lodge was built in 1911.

The view from the back veranda is lovely.

Some parts of the old lodge are standing, but not at all straight!

We enjoyed the drive over to Capitol Reef (to pick up a pie at the Gifford House)

A beautiful view of Johnson Reservoir.

We have enjoyed seeing many 'sightings' of The Old Spanish Trail all over this part of the country.

The Old Spanish Train stretched 1200 miles and linked Santa Fe, New Mexico and Los Angeles, California.  Between 1829 and 1848 carried Mexican woolen goods and traded for tens of thousands of California mules and horses.

This commemorative display  is part of the "Fishlake Cut-off".
It was a 72 mile short-cut that skirted the western shores of Fish Lake
while reaching elevations of 9000 ft.
This valley had abundant fish, grass, water and cool summer temperatures.

We did enjoy the lovely scenery for the interlude.
We had to wait 4 days for the appointment with the mechanic, 1 day for the fix,
and we resume the trip tomorrow.
Hopefully, the trip will be smooth from here!
